HOW'D THE SHOW GO?
A REVIEW OF EACH SHOW FROM THE STAGE IN 50 WORDS MORE OR LESS!
Dec 19th, 2009 Duffy's Christmas Party:
A good sized crowd on hand from the get go. Plenty of holiday happiness even before I started. The video screen was a big hit as people seemed mesmerized by the clips. Great feedback from a friendly crowd.  Thanks to Mike for having me and this is only the beginning!
Jan. 8th, 2010
First foul weather tester this winter for getting everything in and out. An enthusiastic group determined to celebrate their friend beginning her college career made for wild times.
Belted out "O Sole Mio" in Neapolitan, which they seemed to enjoy. The show flowed much better this week. Thanks to everyone who showed.
Jan 15th, 2010 at The Winery at Spring Hill
All tables were taken tonight at the winery. What a great room and staff. No problems with set up tonight. Planning to make some equipment changes if they ask me back though.
Thanks to the birthday party and Pat's pack for hanging around . Your pictures are on the big screen!
Feb 5th at the OUTPOST in Montville OH
Not a bad crowd tonight, not a huge crowd either due to the huge blizzard going on outside. But it was warm and folks started getting into the show about a 6 pack in. It may have helped that I bought the whole bar a round at 11.  Big shout out to Vince, a fellow St. Joe's graduate. Bike night collaborations coming!
Feb. 6th at the Geneva Winterfest in the Geneva Community center.
This was a super cool & mellow event in a huge old auditorium setting. I toned way down on everything and even turned my big Fender amp towards the wall which made for a lush thick sound. Played the first two hours lounge style with no vocals, just playing the notes where I usually sing. Al Green and Alvin Bishop worked out really well that way, so I may perform them like that from now on.
Met so many fine folks from the local wineries and got a few good leads on shows to come. Closed out the show with "O Sole Mio" in honor of the spirit of Bacchus and it brought the crowd to their feet for a standing ovation. Wow, that wine must be powerful stuff..I am learning "Nessun Dorma" next which is a fine old opera song. Usually sung in clownface with the tears just a-rolling. Not me though. No grease paint here.
My time slot was noon to 3, but the hall was full of folks having a nice afternoon tasting the wines so I played until 4 gratis.
Thanks to Jim and the City of Geneva for having me out and I hope we work together again!
Feb. 20th at The Outpost in Montville.
I was looking forward to this gig even though I played out the night before.
I finally have about 90% of my feet under me in this solo venture and the venue is great for opening up the throttle. I wasn't disappointed. A great mix of drive-ins and snowmobilers made up the crowd. All of the bar seats were occupied tonight as well as the front tables. What the music didn't provide, the videos did. Love them girls on trampolines! (Right on Marty!)
Thanks to everyone who shared the good times on the back patio.
Vince, all our wishes did come true. Shoulda been there.
Maggotbrain belongs to those good folks every time they see the show.
There was a late night donnybrook that was promptly put to rest by a mellow dude that went about 3 bills with very little chub. The punk that started it never had a chance... Mellow dude, give me a call if you want a security job. Thanks again Wendy, for having me out. Hope we can work together again this summer!
March 5th at Duffy's on the Square in Madison.
Back to my homebase, Duffy's, to hone the Medicine Show and introduce all the new material I have been working on. This was going to be fun from the get go because Dave (Bad Monkey drummer) and Kevin (Alias lead singer) started out to my place well before the show. I bought a bottle of fine Tennessee sippin' whiskey and a case of Heineken and waited. Well, pretty soon I got the call that they were delayed by a bar and a garage with a fridge on the way out, so we met at Duffy's. I had taken the day off work and was able to set everything up that afternoon so by 9 it was plug and play. Wish I could do that every time. It was a good crowd at the bar pretty much all night. When a group left another would arrive. I put the strobe light in the front window so alot of folks going to the brewery next door saw something was going on and stopped in.
Kevin came up and played a few songs on stage, then at the end of the night while I was tearing down he kept everyone around with an impromptu acoustic jam right at the bar. People were grooving and shaking maracas until the wee hours. It was a blast and the owner must have had a great night at the register.
March 7th at The Winery at Springhill
This was a 2:30 in the afternoon show celebrating Springhill's 1 year anniversary. This winery has the greatest atmosphere whether it's day or night. Jim and the crew had a nice complimentary appetizer buffet set up and the folks gathered around for cheeses, meats, fruits and artisan breads.
At The Winery at Springhill they prefer a nice background wash of music as opposed to a main focus of the afternoon show, so I played what I'm gonna call the Casey O Mellow Show which is geared just for the occasion. I really just play my normal songs but instead of singing most vocals, I run the same vocal notes on the guitar. It makes for a good wine drinking vibe AND sometimes you'll see the older generation dancing to Ziggy Stardust or Bad Company. It seems to really work and I'm glad to find I'm able to adapt to the needs of the classy places as well as rock the beer halls. Thanks again to Jim for having me at the Winery!
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Thanks to everyone following the show and visiting the website. I can monitor how many hits I get and where they originate and I am shocked by the count and especially where some people are following from.
California, Utah, Washington, Germany, Israel, Russia, Australia! All these places have multiple views, so we know they are checking us out.
I'd really love to hear from anyone who visits the website, either positive, negative or neutral. Remember, every so often I pick a name out of the hat and send away a t-shirt so be sure to include your email address so I can contact you back. Either way I WILL respond to every email sent to the site so why not drop me an email?
I'm about to begin a long string of great party gigs on April 2nd at Duffy's. I have learned a ton of new songs since last time. Rocky Horror's "Science Fiction Double Feature" with full orchestration, Merle Haggards "Misery and Gin" "Racing in the Streets" by Bruce, "Never Say Goodbye" by Bon Jovi, some country: "The More I Drink" and "Drinkin' Bone" (See a pattern there?) and alot more. My 3 piece band, Bad Monkey, has also been hard at work booking and learning new stuff. All in all it's been a very musically productive winter and I am looking forward to getting out there and seeing everyone have a good time at the shows
THIS SUMMER!

Friday April 7th at Duffy's in Madison
We were right in the middle of record high temperatures on Friday. It was 78° during the day and it only dipped to about 74° at the 9 pm showtime.
The evening started out pretty slow as folks were enjoying it outside after being cooped up all winter. Things got really cooking about 11 though and from then on there was a full bar with a steady flow of foot traffic floating in on their way out of the Cornerstone brewery next door. Lotta young folks, but they were all properly carded by Patty, the bar princess. I played a couple new songs that went over favorably. Thanks to the out of towners who just planned on getting a Pepsi but stayed all night.
This week's show:Saturday April 24th at Paradise Bay on Roaming Shores:
Let me start by saying I had never been to Paradise Bay. Heard alot of good things about it but never been. I figured it might be a bit out of the way but soon found out it is right off 45 maybe ten minutes from Rt. 90 the first time.  Not out of the way at all!  I rounded that last corner and thought I was in San Diego with all the boats, next thing I know Paradise Bay is spread out in front of me like it belongs on Key West. I grabbed my favorite guitar and strolled in upstairs about two hours early.  After setting down my guitar case the bar master asked if I was Casey O and I said, "Yep. Are you Gabe?"  He said ," No, Gabe's down in the new bar, C'mon down. "  I followed him downstairs and as we descended to the bottom floor the atmosphere went from above ground shot & a beer bar to an under water class act party facility.  Brand new and well equipped for the summer season. You actually feel like you've entered an aquatic environment as your bodily vessel passes down those stairs into the den of Nemo. The wall murals depict under-de-sea scenes that actually pass beyond regular painting into the 3rd dimension.  The depth is incredible and Gabe's sister outdid herself capturing the perspective, the interplay of light through water and the relative scale of each figure rendered.  It's a masterpiece that is worth a visit alone.  On top of this there's two  hi-def big screens.  One running a constant loop of the basement bar's theme "Finding Nemo" and the other alternating between coral dives, surf shots and aquarium views that'll make even the most tea-totaling land lubber ask for a cask of rum served in a cracked coconut. I did my normal set up and had a few folks asking "When are you guys gonna start?"  I told them 'we' start at 9, never letting them know there was no "We".It was just me with about 20000watts and all the background music I needed. I turned to the man of the bar Gabe for a bit of the old hound that nipped me (Jack Daniels) and he offered the nector straight up, no groceries  exactly as I like it, and would not take my pesos. This went on for a while, the man of generosity that he is. A foyne man who'll be gifted with barley and hops by my pocket on our next of meetings. A young crowd was prevailant on this first of nights for me, and those who washed down stairs from the thumping bootyshaker juke box seemed to stick around and enjoy the Medicine Show,  All I know is that by the next time I play there I'll have plenty of rumpshakers to keep the younger crowd backed up 3 deep at the basement bar.
Fun points of the night: Santana with Gabe and his sister on bongos. Jack Daniel straight up. There's a killer view RIGHT out the door to the lake. YES, Bring your beer out. The honor of being the first on the new stage. Losing, then finding my #1 Guitar, "La Cassa de Perro' or The Dog House, because when I bought it, brother I was IN the dog house, It's paid for itself 1000 times over, Thanks for babysitting her, Gabe. It gives me a road tripper reason to come collect her This Thurday or Friday. Thanks sincerely to Paradise Bay for having me out. It's only gonna get bigger and better!  Casey O

May 13th Ferrante Winery and Restaurante:
This was my first show at Ferrante's and the place looks great and ready for the summer season. In fact, when I was setting up the landscapers were adding river rocks around the front patio garden borders. It really defines the islands and pathways nicely. I was set up in the wine tasting / gift shop area for the Thursday Red & White Night, a newer time frame at Ferrante's that highlights the red and white wines with a matching red & white menu featuring light fare for the mid day socializers.
We were at a bit of a disadvantage this afternoon for a big gathering for two reasons beyond anyone's control. Number one: The local weathercasters were predicting heavy rain, wind and lightening, in fact there was a thunderstorm warning all day AND number two: it was the final game for the Cavs 2101 playoffs!
Well, it turned out that it was 78° and sunny and the Cavs were roundly defeated. All in all, everyone would have been better of to come to beautiful Ferrante's.
I know I had fun and got  around to playing anything I wanted to play. I'm looking forward to the June 12th show where I'll have the full sound system and be able to open it all the way up on the outdoor stage.  Dance, drink, dance! Casey O.

Memorial Day Weekend. June 29th at the Chagrin River Yacht Club and June 30th at Kool Lakes Campground.
I don't usually include recollections of the shows I play with my 3 piece band, Bad Monkey, here on this website because I try to separate the two. But there would be no Casey O Medicine Show without the years I put in with Dave, Kirk and the Monkey. We played Saturday night at the Chagrin River Yacht club and I have to say, those people have something crazy going on down there. Being a private club, pretty much anything goes once you pass through the turnstiles. There are inland waterways, huge boats, a bar, a pavillion and everyone drives around in customized golf carts. There seems to be no limit to the grilling and swilling these folks will endure to milk the cow of summer. They had a Mexican themed event with a great buffet for their annual launch party, but I gotta say, I didn't see one boat put out to sea all day. I might buy an inflatable dingy just to join. Bad Monkey has the option to practice out in the open air there any Wednesday we want and it's about a half mile from where we normally do it. It's a summertime no brainer!
Sunday we played an overnight camping gig at Kool Lakes campground at Rt. 528 and Rt. 422 in lovely Deepinahearta Ohio. I passed right through Amish country on the way down and I have to say the allure of such a down to earth lifestyle makes me want to grow my Mayor of Whoville beard out and mount a buckboard to rototill yonder pasture like a cornfed Yoeder. (No disrespect intended in case there are any hostile Amish aboard the Medicine train today) I got there with Kate early so we could set up camp and swim for awhile. We were supposed to start at 7, however at about 6:45 my dumb arse realized I had driven 30 miles south without my guitars. I called base camp and had Alan O throttle south on Rt. 528 in his 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo as fast as he could while I blasted north in my mighty...uh....Chrysler Town & Country to meet in the middle. Needless to say he covered more distance and I was back by about 20 after 7. We started out slow but by God it wound up rocking after a half hour and continued packed with rowdy campers until around midnight. We were asked back for next years bash and it was just the morale boost I needed to head into summer 2010.
Ceck out pictures from these shows in the gallery at www.badmonkeyband.com.
Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend, this spring and this year. To everyone following my website, thanks too, and come out to a show so we can get acquainted.! Thursday June ? Debonne Winery REVIEW TO COME AFTER HYPNOSIS TO INDUCE MEMORY RECALL: Oh, the humanity............

Friday June 11th at Sammy K's in Perry:
This was my first time at Sammy K's. I got the gig on a fluke as I was tooling down Rt. 20 on the way back from Bad Monkey practice. I saw the bar coming up on the right and my first thought was, "I'm parched!" The idea of asking to book a gig there didn't come until well into my second Guinness, yon bless-ed black water of Dublin, Ireland.
Erin Go Braghless. May the road rise up to smote you and all that Gealic jibber-jabber. (Go back and read the last two sentences in a thick Irish brogue and you'll enter where my head is at lately.)
When I brought up the subject the bar maid introduced me to the gal who does their booking. (Real nice person by the way.) They just happened to have a cancellation for the following Friday. Thank you Ted. So flash forward to June 11th and it is about 92 degrees in the shade. Sweltering hot, which is perfect weather for my taste. I hauled in all the gear to the sports bar area and set up the Medicine show.
Just a side note here, I am starting to find out that running the video wall up above my gear on the wall or ceiling is really working out better than lugging around my full screen. Some places are just laid out so I have to, but most times I can point it up on high and make a huge backdrop of crazy images that everyone in all 4 corners can see.
Anyhoo, it was a somewhat slower night and if I had to pick a reason (not an excuse, mind you) I'd say it was that it was so flipping hot. I found out the next day that most places were slow. My background tracks were not programmed correctly for the venue also, which was entirely my fault. I had them set up for the previous show, which was the  mellow Thursday Nighter at Debonne.
I did get to see some good friends that night that made it all worth while. Eileen, Bob and Phyllis.
O Solo Mio went over like a lead balloon this evening for the first time ever. These are some real working class revelers who have no interest in fat guys with beards in tuxedos yelling unintelligible arias in another language. Me? I kinda dig it, but I won't try it again at Sammy K's.
In closing, the staff was GREAT. (Shout out to Marty and all the girls too) The food, by all accounts, was tasty and reasonably priced (Try de fish fry, mon) and I really hope to be asked back now that I know the venue and patron profile better. It's all good at Sammy K's...

Saturday June 12th at Ferrante Winery and Ristorante
THIS was the gig I have been waiting for all spring. My first chance to play on Ferrante's killer outdoor gazebo, right in the center of their expansive outdoor patio. Perfect clear and breezy 78 degree weather even though Dick Goddard, eternal weatherman, called for rain and thunder...Weatherman, the only job where you can be wrong 90% of the time and still retain employment.
Flowers, fountains and fun reigns out there folks. God Gad A'mighty, if you've never been to Ferrante's....go! (Go ahead. I'll wait here 'til you get back...g'head now..)
I got up to the winery whilst the afternoon band was still playing. They had a liquid velvet sax player. Everything he played sounded like butter. Hot melted soul budduh. Paula Dean woulda put him in a casserole. He had more soul than a shoemaker...but I digress.
The place was packed with people. Beautiful wine drenched people.
I reprogrammed my background music to a more upbeat show and the songlist was on mark for the crowd. The first set was the meat & potatoes of my songlist. I always start out with MSB's "Let's Get the Show On the Road". I also threw in a couple of my favorite 'acoustic' songs, "Hallelujah", "How Many Kings" and "Pink Houses" although I've never brought my acoustic guitar to a gig. I'm trying to be the departure from every Tom, George and Teddy. (No offence intended, gents.)
Kirk, one of my Bad Monkey cohorts, was in attendance and told me I need a big old dreadnought guitar for those songs. He's right, of course, but it's not right for me at the moment and I'm my own boss, Spanky.
I closed the first set with O Sole Mio and the reaction was humbling.
"NOW", I thought, " I have found people who appreciate fat guys with beards in tuxedos yelling unintelligible arias in another language."
The second set was geared more toward dancing and upbeat partying.
I played a couple songs I have never played live before. "Electric Boogie", "Word Up" and Flo-rida's "Low". I gotta tell you, old rockers like me would say I'm selling out, but when all those fine ladies got "Lowlowlowlowlooooow" it was worth the price.
Met a bunch of new Medicine Heads at this show and passed out alot of business cards, so I am hoping I will see you an a regular basis.
Happy anniversary to the Frabottas. Eric, I really screwed the pooch on your request, but I know what happened now and if you two see me again I'll get it right. You also have a drink coming from me.
Muy embarrassing on my behalf, but that's entertainment!
As someone once said, "You only go around once..." ;-)

SUNDAY JULY 11TH at Debonne Winery / Geneva OH
This was my first weekend outdoor show at Debonne. The weather was great, about 82° and mostly sunny. I got the the winery at about 12:30 pm for a 2:30 start. After setting everything up I realized I didn't have the power cord for my vocal processor. It's not that big of a deal since I played without one for years, but since it adds harmony vocals it is a big part of the Medicine Show sound. The crowd never noticed, even those who had seen me before  so all in all it's good to know I'm not leaning on it too much after all. Debonne is a great place to spend an afternoon. It really has it all with the patio, the rolling hill and gazebo next to the stage, of course the wine, but also it's own brewery. The stout is excellent. I split the 3 hours into two sets. Between sets a frantic frauline came up and asked me to announce that someone had left a dog in their car with the windows up. She was tweaking, and I mean REALLY tweeking to the point of tears. I followed her out to the parking lot and sure enough, there was one of those midget half rat half Jack Russell terriers broasting in an SUV. I felt bad so I tried the door to see if I could get the little fella some air. Well, Scruffy, he don't WANT no air. He wants to bite the hand that frees him, and the little monster dashes forth, verily and gets ahold of my hand right between the thumb and forefinger! It caught me by surprise one and a half Rieslings deep, and the predator locked eyes with me and started that frantic alligator neck shake like I was a chew toy. "Son of a....!" I said and pulled back my hand and slammed the door with one foul swoop. The little snipe BIT me! I walked back up and located the owner. By the time he got to his car another good Samaritan had let the vermin out and he was dashing madly around the lot chasing cars. Mind you, this thing weighed about 1.5 pounds soaking wet. It was terrifying......
Anyhow, I played the more upbeat songs during the second set. People danced & sang & drank. It was fun. Hope Debonne has me back soon.
Everyone I knew went back to my casa afterwards for a pool party. We shook it up til the wee hours. It was great...but it made for a horrible Monday back to work.

Saturday July 17th - SPORTSTERZ on the strip in Geneva Oho.
WITH BAD MONKEY!
Oh yeah! This is the annual gig that Kirk, Dave and I look forward to all year. Each week before we play we are watching that weather God, Dick Goddard, to see if he will bless us with sunshine and warmth. This year he musta thought we were wooley bear enthusiasts because it was about 82° and mostly sunny. That's GOOD now in northern Ohio because we have been baked, broiled, turned over and basted, for the last two months. There was a nice breeze blowing across Sportserz's huge outdoor stage and we were happy to play the 3 pm to 7 pm slot. Lotsa time for carousing and we are outta there before Johnny Law wakes to start his feeding frenzy on the strip. This had to be the biggest "in house" sound production we have ever done with Bad Monkey. When I say "in house" I mean using everything we have with no outside help or power. Kirk did an amazing ear ringing job blasting out about a ka-gillion watts of monkey funk. I gotta tell you, after the first set my left ear was ringing so bad it sounded like someone left a faucet running. We double jammed all the way through the first seat, and we honestly didn't consider a song list. That for us is like a constriction if you ask me. Dan from Erie PA came up and swailed openly on the guitar and vocals. When I first met the guy I thought, "Here's a real player. He's gonna smoke me om the guitar." Well, I was right. He busted out the chops BIGTIME and he's in his 20's & rides the big Harley..... so "We hate guys like you Dan!" (He knows I'm only busting his aggots..) Anyhoo, the man rocks and plays live in Erie PA all the time, so as soon as he contacts me we'll get linked to his website so all can shred along.
Lotsa bikes this Monkeypalooza and lotsa old friends. I took a good amount of pictures AND video, so look for those soon .
Great summer musically so far! We got alot to go so I hope to see you all at the show!
Saturday July 24th at PARADISE Bay in Roaming Shores, OH.
Another scorcher of a Saturday and thunderstorms in the forecast, but
we decided to take a chance and set up outside on the Patio again. Last time I tried this it started raining after a couple songs. However tonight was different. The weather passed south and the patio was full of drunken pirate bachleorrete parties. They came in limos and pontoon boats. Full flocks of 'em in black summer dresses. Very intimidating.

August 7th, Windrush Hollow Campground:
Uh, yeah. Great campground. They hated the Casey O Medicine Show and wanted a rap DJ. After the first set we came to an agreement that I was in fact, NOT, a rap DJ and that I would play their gutteral thumping grind music.

I got paid in full and left. Those people can dance though, I gotta hand 'em that...
